Manufacturing Software for Electronics & Electrical Manufacturers

An assembly made of sub-assemblies, a design that changes while jobs are on the floor, and components that have to be checked before they are accepted. Orbit keeps the bill of material in versions and records every change against the jobs it affects.

What costs a electronics & electrical manufacturer money

And what Orbit does about it.

One Missing Component Stops the Line

A build needs two hundred parts and the shortage is found at the bench. Planning explodes the whole bill of material, sub-assemblies included, and lists what is short before the job is raised.

A Design Change Reaches the Floor by Word of Mouth

Revision C is approved and jobs keep being built to revision B. An engineering change note records the change, who approved it and from when, and applying it is what activates the new BOM.

Bad Components Are Found After Assembly

A reel of the wrong value is discovered when finished units fail. Incoming inspection plans check each receipt against a specification, and a failed lot can be returned to the vendor from the same screen.

Built for the way you make things

Every line below is a screen in the app today.

  • Multi-level bills of material with sub-assemblies
  • BOM versions, one active per item, kept on the job it was raised with
  • Engineering change notes — raised, approved and applied as separate steps
  • Shortage list across the whole BOM before the job is raised
  • Incoming inspection with measured and observed characteristics
  • NCRs with disposition, including return to vendor against the receipt
  • Work orders with material issue, part receipts and scrap
  • Shop-floor job card and downtime reasons per machine
  • Job costing — planned against actual, with overheads absorbed
  • Serial numbers and warranty register on what you sell
  • Job work for coating, moulding or sub-contract assembly
  • Price lists per buyer, GST invoices and bill-wise receivables

Electronics & Electrical Manufacturer software — FAQs

What manufacturers ask us first.

How are design changes controlled?

Through an engineering change note. The note records what changed, why, who approved it and the date it takes effect, and it points at the BOM version before and after. Approving a change and applying it are separate steps: applying is what makes the new version active, and it is refused unless the change was approved. The register also shows how many jobs are running on the old design when the change is made.

Can it track serial numbers?

Serial numbers are captured when goods are purchased and when they are sold, and the warranty register and warranty claims work from them. Assigning serial numbers at the moment a job’s output is received is not built yet — production output is received by lot.

Does it support alternate or substitute components?

Not on the bill of material itself: a BOM line names one component. A substitution today is made by issuing the other item to the job, which the consumption register will show.

Can incoming components be inspected before they are accepted?

Yes. An inspection plan for the item at the incoming stage lists the characteristics to check, their limits and the sample size. Results are recorded against the goods receipt line, a fail raises an NCR, and you can switch on a gate so a receipt is not accepted until its inspection has passed.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Orbit is a Windows desktop app that keeps your electronics & electrical manufacturer data in a database on your own PC, so bills of material, work orders, stock, invoicing and reports keep working with no internet at all. A second PC in the office or on the floor connects to the first over your own network.

Does it generate e-invoices and e-way bills?

Orbit raises the GST tax invoice and records the IRN and e-way bill number against it, and it produces the GST registers, GSTR-2B reconciliation and ITC-04 figures. Generating an IRN or an e-way bill from inside the app, and filing returns, are not built — those are done on the government portal or through your CA.

Is there a free trial for manufacturers?

Yes — a 14-day trial of the full manufacturer app on one Windows PC, no credit card needed. Or book a demo and we will walk through it with one of your own products, from its bill of material to a costed job.

How is it priced?

Manufacturing is quoted per business rather than sold off a price list, because it depends on how many users and computers you run. Book a demo and we will send a written quote for your electronics & electrical manufacturer.

Can I keep using it for billing and accounts?

Yes. A manufacturer licence is everything a shop licence has — GST invoicing, purchases, stock, customers, the full books with trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet, and Tally export — with the production modules added on top.
